Human Trafficking

March 31, 2011, Dubai, UAE On the 4th day of Insight Dubai 60 students from other universities around the world almost represents 30 different countries along with 60 Emirati students from Dubai Women’s College discussed different topics on Human Trafficking.
Students were divided into eight different groups in order to discuss the concerns and causes of human trafficking. Besides, groups were asked to produce posters using their own creativity in purpose of raising awareness and finding solutions for this issue.
Dr. Azhar from Dubai Foundation for Women and Children joined the conference and discussed the different types human trafficking in UAE and how they occur, as she also shared her personal experiences working with victims of human trafficking. Amanda Oakes from the United States said,” Dr. Azhar’s presentation was very interactive, and many conference participants were able to contribute to a discussion about ways to decrease victims of trafficking”.
At the end of the session a staff member at Dubai Women’s College mentioned that the students made a wonderful job in presenting valuable information and giving good solutions, based on the excellent job that the students ended up with; Dr. Azhar asked if she could use the posters in the coming conference on human trafficking. Some students also mentioned that they benefit a lot from this session and learned more about human trafficking and the reason behind it.

International Women's Day

On the 24th March 2011, Dubai Women's College celebrates the 100th anniversary of the International Women's Day on DWC's campus. The event was under the title of 'Inspiring and celebrating Women: Past, Present and Future successes’. Najla Al Awadhi, former Member of the UAE Federal National Council, Deputy CEO of Dubai Media Incorporated, General Manager of Dubai One TV and member of the Regional Board of Directors of the Young Arab Leaders gave a speech, as each of  Nima Abu-Wardeh of the BBC and founder and CEO of Cashy.me, Ginnie Carlier, Partner and MENA Diversity & Inclusiveness Leader at Ernst & Young, Latifa Fikri, President of DWC Alumnae Association and currently holds the position of Vice President at e-vision Etisalat, Nicholle Kingsley, Senior Associate at Herbert Smith and Manal Omar, Regional Program Manager for the Middle East for Oxfam participated in the discussion. As there were also different breakout sessions, and as a corporate communication student i attended the social media session the presenters were talking about how important is social media and how did media network helped them.

Art Dubai

17th March 2011, Dubai women's College arraged a field trip to DIF "Art Dubai Gallery", Art Dubai has become the essential gathering place for collectors, artists and art professionals from across the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and beyond. The fair's fifth edition brought together more than 82 galleries from 34 countries across the world and hosted a collateral programme of events including Global Art Forum_5, Art Park, the Abraaj Capital Art Prize, exhibitions, film screenings, talks, installations and performative tours.
